This week's tip: Cash in on Holiday Sales with Catchy Themes
As a gift basket retailer the end of summer means stepping up your planning for the holiday season. By now you should have contacted potential clients, scheduled appointments and begun ordering inventory and supplies based on your projected sales.
As you gather what you've learned from your clients, the tradeshows and catalogs, consider developing your designs around catchy themes that will appeal to your walk-in and online customers. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Traditional themes are never out of style.
a. Sleigh Ride -- A sleigh full of delicious treats with ornaments scatttered throughout
b. Nutcracker Sweet -- Nuts and candies surrounding the with the familiar nutcracker
c. Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus -- Santa or elves emerging from a toy drum filled with treats
d. After Dinner Hostess Gift--Treats or spa relaxation items for the Thanksgiving or Christmas hostess
e. Don't forget angels, holly, ivy, candy canes and the nativity.
2. Regional themes appeal to many.
a. Surfing with Santa--In California Santa is often seen riding a surfboard and enhancing gourmet food themes.
b. Carol of the Bells-- In Boston, carol singing festivities are popular, so how about a musical theme.
c. Dashing Through the Snow-- In snowy climates use blue, white and silver colors to give that cool feeling.
a. Kwanzaa Greetings-- Include foods associated with harvest and use red, green, black and gold enhancements
b. Happy Hanukkah -- Many food manufacturers carry Kosher foods. Don't forget toys, games, extra candles.
4. Hobbies and interests make good starting points for holiday themes too: golf, teacher appreciation, music lovers, sports, travel, foodies, gardening and more.
Once you decide on your themes, it's time to announce them. Learn to write winning press releases courtesy of the nation's leading publicity expert, Joan Stewart, The Publicity Hound®.
